I grew up outside Seattle. I graduated from the University of Washington in 1997 and moved to San Francisco. I worked there for around 10 years, at MetaDesign, Chronicle Books, Dwell Magazine, and Apple Computer. (resumé PDF)

While in the Bay Area, I also met my lovely wife Lisa and we had our lovely son Finn. We moved here, to Chicago, in May 2006.

I'm now running my own design studio, Hazen Creative, Inc., specializing in branding and visual communications.

 

 4-19-2008: My collage art is going to be in an exhibition featuring about 20 local artists during May. The gallery is at 3955 West Irving Park Road, and is open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

 

 Shawn Hazen 4-2008: There’s a fairly sizable new “wave” of images up at Chicago Type. Much of it from Rogers Park and the surrounding area.

HAZEN CREATIVE: This is my graphic design studio. We develop unique brand and communication solutions for clients large and small through identity, print collateral, and Web design.

CHICAGO TYPE: This is an ongoing project documenting interesting, old, and quirky typography throughout Chicago.

TORN TOGETHER: As a sort of antidote to my normal design work, I assemble small collages with found scraps of paper and other ephemera I collect.

THE FLAVOR: A blog on design and things that interest designers maintained by my wife and me.
